If you can’t sleep late at night or you’re just having an uneventful day, visit Yelp and read through the most insightful, disturbing restaurant reviews known to mankind. A good place to start is the page of McDonald’s, where people write songs about McNuggets and admit they’ve hit rock bottom. Yelp does bring out the brutal honesty in everyone. One guy gave McDonald’s only one star because of almost dying from food poisoning. That is probably fair.
On the other hand, some people might be expecting a little too much from regular restaurants. A reviewer once gave IHOP one less star because it had “no wow factor.” Yelp is the brainchild of former PayPal employees, Russel Simmons and Jeremy Stoppelman. Yelp was launched in 2004 as a website for crowd-sourced reviews of local businesses. Yelp has since expanded to being a multinational corporation that markets Yelp.com and the Yelp mobile app.
Graphic designer Michael Ernst created Yelp’s logo, also known as the Yelp burst. The icon, which looks like an asterisk formed with five dissimilar triangles, serves as Yelp’s symbol today.
If you’re reading this, it’s probably the time to visit Yelp. You can thank us later.
