This DeviantART icon is made in Material Design style developed by Google. This style is based on extremely simplified shapes, thin two-pixel lines, and is optimized for 24x24 px. Unlike other vector icon packs that have merely hundreds of icons, this icon pack contains 5,300 icons, all in the same style and quality.
Before the ubiquity of social media, online forums dominated the online social space. Forums were elaborate message boards, allowing Internet users to express themselves in even more ways than before. There were specialized forums and online spaces for certain individuals -- and one of them was DeviantArt.
Beginning around the year 2000, DeviantArt arose as an online space for displaying your “Deviations”. Deviations were basically artistic works; they began as digital images, but eventually expanded to include even text.
During that time, DeviantArt had a simple, text-based logo that reflected its boldness and rejection of the norm at the time:
By 2001, DeviantArt held a contest to find a logo, as well as a mascot for their branding -- and the result was Fella, a spunky, gray, cartoon-ish avatar that, along with the new logo, graced the front page of the site for a long time.
Even though the site had chosen their compact logo, from 2000 to 2004, DeviantArt continued to experiment with various full text logos, seen here:
It was in 2004 when the creative site finally made their compact logo prominent on the front page -- a stylized “DA” design that looked like this:
This unimposing, muted palette persisted for almost six years, until 2010, when DeviantArt revamped their site colors to include bright green. This reflected onto their logo, which now looks like this:
For four years since 2010, this logo has been the hallmark of DeviantArt. It wasn’t until 2014, when a newer, bolder initiative from the site began. They renewed their branding, and thus, featured a brand new logo, vastly different from its predecessors:
And here we are today -- a fresh and daring DeviantArt, with a simple, impactful logo, and a striking, bold icon.
