This Save icon is part of an icon pack of 69,700 web icons. Icons are available in PNG, SVG, CSS, PDF, and EPS formats, as a font, and in other vector formats. Unlike other icon packs, our web icons are designed by a single designer, guaranteeing the consistent style and quality.
This icon is a stylized version of a floppy disk, just like the 3.5 inch ones used so many years ago. It's made up of a square with the top right corner flattened to a notch. Inside are various squares to represent the paper label and metal sheath found on these types of disks.
We've received the idea on June 19, 2012 and created the icons on June 20, 2012
Currently I only found one icon named "save as", being a floppy disk.
It would be nice to have 2 different icons, one for save and one for save as
Story about Save Icon
Saving your life's work, whether it be a video or written piece, is very important. It could be an exposed email about your boss having sex with his secretary. Or editing a video that you took, speeding on a dead-end street while you were drunk. These things in life are both memories you can share and work that you can feel proud of doing, but you would need a free downloadable icon to know where the save button is.
You can also…
Edit a program that you made and add a save button, "saving" you the time it would take to save it manually—that might be too many save's in one sentence, but you get the point.
Use it as an image icon for files, letting you know where all your "work" is.
Trick your friends by telling them that your program only saves to floppy disks, after they're done with all their work.
And so much more!
Usage Story of Save Icon
It’s thirty minutes before class. The clock is ticking like a time bomb as you type your 10-page term paper on a theory that you can hardly recall learning about. You’re at the last page, writing the conclusion and also congratulating yourself for being such a clutch player. You’re down to three sentences. Almost there. Ten minutes left. You’re typing at a rate faster than Mavis Beacon ever did. 5, 4, 3, 2. And then—you guessed it right—power shuts down. The world stands still. You are caught in the same doom suffered by millions before you—you weren’t able to save the file. Cue in a legion of profanities.
By now, we are all well-aware of the extremely important role that the save icon plays in our lives. The failure to use the save icon has been the ending of several tragedies. Without it, we are more or less nothing, basically.
Although the floppy disk has been tossed out in the early naughts, it remains the most familiar icon that symbolizes the save function. Like a lot of things, it is gone but definitely not forgotten. However, to keep up with the times, these two icons might be more suitable today:
